Senate Finance Committee Takes Aim at Nursing Home Reform

On March 6, 2019, the Senate Finance Committee heard testimony from advocates of nursing home reform. One of those advocates was the daughter of Virgina Olthoff. Virginia died of dehydration while in the care of a five-star rated nursing facility. Virginia’s story is one that Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) aims to prevent by convening the hearing on nursing home reform. Grassley said reform was be a “top priority” while he heads the committee.
